I recently went to Toycon 2019 to cover to event. Thanks to Ian Velasquez for making it possible. Ian Velasquez is the great grand nephew of Tony Velasquez, which is regarded as the Father of Pinoy Comics. He is there to promote the Pinoy Komiks Classics exhibit which includes the works of Alfredo Alcala, Mars Ravelo, Steve Gan and Tony Velasquez. High light is the original arts of Tony Velasquez for everyone to enjoy. I will upload soon the Indie Komiks Podcast episode so watch out for it.
Toy Con PH is held yearly at SMX Convention Center, SM Mall of Asia. This year on June 28-30

Hal Santiago’s name is synonymous with the komiks novels Pinoy Houdini, Talim and The Hands. The Hands won for him the award for Best Written and Illustrated Novel by an Artist from the komiks contributors’ association, WIKA, in 1984.
The three aforementioned novels were all written by him when he joined Graphic Arts Service, Inc. (GASI) in the 70’s.
Santiago, who started his komiks career in 1958 as an illustrator, won the Best Illustrator Award in 1980 – his first, also from WIKA – for his artistic visualizations of various novels.
