I’ve been taking photos regularly even before the pandemic of 2020. It started when I got my first Lumix GX8 camera. I’ve had other cameras before that, but I started taking photography seriously when I got the Lumix. I also spent hours and hours reading and watching B&H Photography and other pro photographer seminar videos on YouTube, as well as gear reviews.
I started teaching Photography and Videography at National University Manila in 2022. I remember the saying, “you learn more when you teach”—that definitely happened to me. I studied even deeper so I could share more knowledge with my students.
Last year, I required my students to print a photography project zine as their midterm output. They had to shoot and print their portfolio photography shots, applying what they had learned. I’m very happy with the results—most of them produced great outputs. The photo above was my sample for them. I only showed them the digital copy last year. This year, I’m happy to share the actual print version with my future students.
I’m excited to create more zines in the future. I plan to make zines focused on basic composition techniques like leading lines, fill the frame, contrast, pattern, and more.
